In the Fall of 2023, I took PLCY 581, Research Design for Public Policy. In this course, I designed and executed an independent research study. Improving Housing Access and Reducing Wealth Disparities for Black Americans: Policy Analysis

In the Spring of 2023, I took PLCY 340, Justice in Public Policy. In this course, I learned how to analyze policy issues from an ethical lens. I got to play philosopher as I utilized theories from Bentham, Locke, Nussbaum, Rawls, and more to justify policy interventions. For our final project, we were tasked with dissecting a policy issue and analyzing three solutions based on ethical frameworks. Deeply interested in housing, I chose to write about racial discrimination in the housing market in Evanston, IL. As a result, I analyzed solutions to mitigate racial wealth gaps while considering equity, utility, and autonomy.

In the Fall of 2022, I studied abroad in Seoul, South Korea. I studied political science at Yonsei University, and took a course on environmental and energy politics. The course’s final project required me to analyze an energy-related issue and propose evidence-based solutions. Despite being in Asia, I decided to center my solution-seeking presentation on my hometown, the Research Triangle, NC. Through this project, I highlighted the environmental impacts of the transportation sector and provided comprehensive solutions to improve public transit infrastructure while considering GHG emissions, feasibility, and effectiveness.

In the Spring of 2023, I took PLCY 365: Sexuality, Gender, and Public Policy. In this course, we were assigned to work in groups to write comprehensive policy briefs. My group decided to write on the state of abortion access in North Carolina. For my section, I focused specifically on the racial and ethnic disparities in the criminalization of abortion and abortion access.
